We are delighted Kansas City now has a regularly offered full afternoon tea experience every Saturday in Shawnee, Kansas. Wandering Vine at the Castle has rotating seasonal tea offerings.
I have loved drinking tea since I was little. My mom would throw delightful tea parties. This year I will highlight my favorite Teas of KC. My favorite tea is always an elaborate affair accompanied by sweet treats, tiny sandwiches, and an opportunity to dress up.
Afternoon Tea at Wandering Vine at the Castle
A castle is the perfect place for a Royal Afternoon Tea. Look no further than The Castle in Shawnee, KS where you can have tea every week!
Who to Bring?
I’ve been known to treat myself to a solo afternoon tea, but you really need at least one other person to “spill the tea” (share the best gossip) and make your tea a real tea party. I suggest grabbing your girl friends, mother, sister, or even significant other for the best experience. It’s a great idea for a birthday or bridal shower. One person can book for the group to ensure you all sit together.
The Food and Tea
The set afternoon tea menu rotates seasonally. The ample offerings are plenty to function as a meal. You know you can expect scones or something similar, a few savory sandwiches, and dessert. Check out the printed event listing on their website and on your table for more details on the treats accompanying your tea.
Gluten free offerings are available for an additional charge if pre-ordered with reservation. There is a wide menu of around 10 tea offerings. The teas come in a small individually wrapped fancy tea bag, and each guest can choose their own flavor of Metz tea. You get your own personal size teapot and a tea timer to judge how long to steep your tea. You can ask for a refill of hot water (there’s an additional charge for more tea bags). Alternatively you can have coffee. Mimosas, cocktails, and wine are available to add on, too!
Tips for the Best Time
Make a reservation for tea. Seatings are available Saturdays from noon to 3pm. They can sell out, so reserve early with your group.
Parking: there is dedicated parking in the lot behind the castle.
Dress up: as with many things, it’s more fun if you dress up for this special event! A little hat or fascinator, some special jewelry or a favorite dress can make you feel more royal.

“Wine, Dine, Wandering Vine:” Wandering Vine also has many additional offerings: dinner, Sunday brunch, and wine. There’s a beautiful patio out back. The venue is perfect for private, special events.
